Renewable Fuels & Environmental Stewardship

Leading America's Energy Transition

Wynnewood Refinery is investing decisively in renewable fuels production while maintaining the highest environmental and safety standards across our conventional refining operations.

Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Aviation accounts for approximately 2.5% of global CO₂ emissions, and with air travel demand projected to double by 2050, the need for lower-carbon jet fuel is urgent. Wynnewood's SAF — produced via the HEFA pathway — delivers up to 80% lifecycle greenhouse gas reductions compared to conventional jet fuel.

Our SAF is certified under ASTM D7566, making it fully drop-in compatible with existing aircraft engines and airport fueling infrastructure. We currently supply SAF under long-term offtake agreements to major commercial airlines and are expanding production capacity by 40% with a $180 million investment completing in 2026.

For airlines committed to CORSIA compliance, EU ETS obligations, or voluntary net-zero targets, Wynnewood offers a reliable, domestically produced SAF supply — eliminating dependence on volatile spot markets and imported alternatives.

Renewable Diesel

Commissioned in 2023, Wynnewood's 15,000 BPD Renewable Diesel unit produces HVO (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil) — a product chemically identical to petroleum diesel that can serve as a 100% drop-in replacement. Unlike biodiesel (FAME), our renewable diesel has superior cold-flow properties and higher cetane numbers.

Renewable Diesel generates up to 70% fewer lifecycle GHG emissions and qualifies under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS), California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS), and Oregon's Clean Fuels Program.

Sustainability Pillars

01

Renewable Fuels Production

Investing in SAF and Renewable Diesel production to provide scalable, commercially viable low-carbon alternatives to conventional transportation fuels.

02

Emissions Reduction

Reducing Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions through energy efficiency upgrades, waste heat recovery, flare gas reduction, and electrification of auxiliary systems.

03

Water & Waste Management

Operating advanced wastewater treatment, closed-loop cooling systems, and solid waste recycling programs to minimize our environmental footprint.

04

Community & Transparency

Maintaining open communication with neighboring communities, publishing annual sustainability reports, and supporting local STEM education and workforce development programs.

Regulatory Standards

ISO 9001:2015

Quality management system certification covering all refinery operations.

ASTM D7566

EPA RFS

Registered producer under the federal Renewable Fuel Standard for both D5 (advanced biofuel) and D4 (biomass-based diesel) RINs.

OSHA VPP Star

Voluntary Protection Program Star site — the highest safety designation awarded by OSHA.

CARB LCFS

Registered fuel pathway under California's Low Carbon Fuel Standard.

CORSIA Eligible

SAF production certified as CORSIA eligible under ICAO's Carbon Offsetting scheme for International Aviation.
